some pretty & a great idea

image via here

i know we've all seen this kitchen before. it was featured in the march elle decor. it belongs to lindsey and kristen buckingham. i don't think i really looked at it until now. and i love it. love the tile floor. has some white cabinets and dark cabinets, therefore steve and i would both be happy. sub zero fridge. wolf range. butcher block island top. prep sink on island. farmhouse table, where frankly i'd eat every meal including christmas dinner. with guests. and the topper...little landscape oil painting. yes, i love it.

and to change subjects... my sister-in-law gave us a stack of cloth napkins for a christmas gift. not these, but aren't they pretty?from here
hers are even nicer. because she stitched each and every one. it's her way of getting us to stop using paper towels as napkins for every meal. and for us to be more eco-conscious. and it's working. and i love it too. no more wasting paper towels. and no more using linen napkins only for guests. thanks, julie!

dream house

i found this over on megan's blog today. and i'm in love. in my dream house i want a farmhouse kitchen that runs the length of the kitchen. this will be the only table to eat at. it'll be for breakfast, lunch, dinner (including thanksgiving and christmas), crafts, cards, games. and those benches are ideal. that would probably suffice my need/want for banquette seating. i'd probably have to pull chairs with backs up to the ends though. otherwise, perfect.

dream house

i've never had a butler's pantry, or a butler for that matter. but i think it's on the list for the dream house. butler's pantry, that is, not a butler. although a housekeeper would be nice. to sweep, vacuum, clean the bathrooms, scoop litter, wash windows, and do laundry. i have no trouble starting laundry, it's just the folding part that gets me every time. oops, i'm digressing. back to the pantry i want for the dream house.

love this behind closed doors look. i could be a little messy here.
or how bout a little shot of color?
or a lot of shot of color?? i love this. i could live with this butler's pantry. and i think it's modern enough that steve'll like it too. great, settled.

dream house

my dream house will have a mud room. off the back. somewhere near the kitchen. i'm sick of the dog leash beside the coffeemaker. here's a couple simple styles i like. easy to clean wood floors. a bench. some hooks or cabinet or bins. nothing fancy. just something where pixel can leave some dirt before coming into the rest of the house. and where i don't have to sweep every hour.

love these too.

and this, well this, is perfection. hooks, cubbies, name plates (love that), chalkboard, clock, drawers... and map wall! love.

dreamin'

i've decided to start a file here on the blog to catalog photos of what i'd like in my dream house. let's start with the kitchen. i'm determined to have a white kitchen someday. this will take a lot of convincing for my husband. he prefers the natural wood look. my only defense is that our last 2 houses had wood (unpainted) cabinetry, it's time for white. good defense, huh?

we can also check off black slab countertops , butcherblock island, subway tile, farmhouse sink, window above sink, glassfront cabinets, cool dual pendant (i'm sure there's some designers out there who are screaming silently at my design terms). i'll take it all. i even love the wall color and the cute clock. maybe i could just move into this house.

and it's even got a cool front porch. that's on my list too.

love the daybed, no railings, painted ceiling. i'm telling ya... i should just live here.
