what i know for sure

the last page of oprah's monthly magazine is always an article penned by oprah. it's titled "what i know for sure". it's the first thing i read in every issue i get.

well, here is what i know for sure today. i do not like tornadoes. before 2 pm yesterday, my only worry was surviving day 2 of bootcamp later in the evening. yes, a very minor worry, but the biggest one at the time.

i flipped tv stations around 2 yesterday, while i was working, and saw on the local station that a large tornado had touched down just south of dallas. we live about 35 miles north of dallas. several other tornadoes were reported and we were in the path of one. a little panic set in. ok, a lot of panic. i called steve. he was south of me (but north of dallas) at work. they were gathering in an internal hallway for safety. i heard the sirens. i corralled the cats into a closet upstairs (it was the best i could do). pixel and i huddled in an internal closet downstairs. as you can see, she stole my pillow for herself.

thankfully the storm moved east of us. we were just out of range. here's a photo that someone took while the storm was passing thru a small town south of dallas. yes, those are trailers (from tractor-trailers) flying through the air.

***

my friend denise linked to this yesterday on facebook. 25 photos of the destruction. today, i'm just very thankful the storm moved past us. and very sorry for those who were not as lucky.

snow!

view out the back. um... do you think it's time i bring in the sofa mattress?? (bottom right above)

and the view out my office window.
they (you know.... them) say it's going to be one of the worst winters in 50+ years here in the pacific northwest. could this be an indicator. a white thanksgiving.

weather gods, are you listening?

please stop. stop what you are doing. i can't take it any more. this is the last weekend you've ruined for me. i can't take any more clouds, greyness, drizzly rain and cold. you've made me cranky, depressed and lethargic. (although you did give me an excuse to lay on the sofa and almost finish this instead of doing my gardening.)

so, weather gods, let's lay it all on the line. let's take a look at how you've performed so far for the first half of june.

from June 1 thru 16, there have been 6 days with partly cloudy sky conditions, nine days with cloudy sky conditions, and one day with sunny sky conditions.*
that's ONE DAY! WITH SUN!

precipitation for june 1-16 is running over an inch above normal at 2.22 inches compared to the normal 0.85 inches. there have been 12 days with precipitation.*

enough, weather gods! and just to clarify what i do need.
i need this.

loads and loads of this. today is a new day, the first day of summer. last year you were beautiful. you went 3 months without raining. no rain and gobs of sunshine. please do that again this year. for my sanity. and therefore my husband's sanity. thank you.

rain, rain, go away

can ya see the dancing raindrops on my outdoor table?
we've had nothing but rain, and wind, for the last few weeks. or so it seems. i'm sure there were a few days with sun, but i honestly can't remember them. all i remember is the rain and the grey skies. i'm depressed. time to gulp my liquid vitamin d drops.

the weekend doesn't look much more promising. maybe a hint of sun tomorrow. but i'm not gonna hold my breath.
instead i'll just plan on indoor activites. like household organization. i've been meaning to play along with lauren over at pure style home. every week (or almost every week) she's posting a household organization project. and inviting her readers to follow along and send in their photos of the completed project. fun!

week 1 was this.

pour small samples of paint in jars, label, and place with brush in room where that color is. then it's sooo simple to reach for that jar when you need to do a quick paint touch up. brilliant! and i've been going to the garage, searching thru 47 paint cans, digging for a paint brush each time i needed to retouch the paint. silly me! this i will do this weekend. promise.

week 2 was this. organize your coat closet. i'm feeling pretty good about my coat closet. so i'm gonna pass on this one. (although i may take her up on her suggestion of matching wooden hangers.) but check out what lauren did. this is her coat closet before.

and ta-da, after. what a makeover! from aqua paint to the door hanging caddy to shoe shelves. awesome.

head over here to follow along with lauren and her readers.

and hopefully i'll squeeze in some sofa time with a book or a movie.

what are your plans for the weekend?

i'm entitled

to a day off. and some rest. and it's snowing. see, look.

what better motivation to go back to bed. and i'm still in my pjs. see. do you like how my slippers fit inside steve's crocs so i can step out on the wet concrete and take a photo and not mess up my slippers.
the trunk show was last night. i could put away my display. or i could go back to bed.
or i could list into my shop my new favorite set of cards i made for the show. or i could go back to bed.
or i could sit here and admire my cute little bowls i bought from my friend at the show.
but i'm tired. i'm entitled to rest. there, i've convinced myself. back to bed it is.
